NOVONIX – An Ultra-High Precision Coulometry Study of Solid-State Batteries

Summary

Ultra-high precision coulometry (UHPC) and associated battery cell testing techniques requiring precision and accuracy beyond the capabilities of conventional testers are typically used to quickly assess lifetime capability and cell performance. The need for ultra-high precision and accuracy is often mistakenly thought of as only necessary when studying cells with very, very long lifetimes, and therefore only applicable to conventional Li-ion cells containing liquid electrolyte and graphite anodes. The value of applying UHPC testing to cells with a solid-state electrolyte is demonstrated. This includes a characterization of cell performance, investigation of degradation mechanisms, and providing insight into assembly quality and outlier behavior.
